The Gift of Time (and What It Taught Me About Sales)

Good morning Reader

I hope you’ve had a peaceful Christmas, full of good food, laughter, and quality moments with the people who matter most.

Over the last few days, I found myself thinking not about the presents under the tree… but about the time around them. Sitting with family, watching nieces and nephews play with their new toys, chatting with relatives I don’t see often... these were the moments that stuck with me. It reminded me that the things we often overlook are actually the things that matter most.

That’s a lesson that also rings true in sales.

During the rush of targets and deadlines, it’s so easy to overlook the quiet, non-glamorous time we invest in our craft: the conversations that don’t immediately convert, the learning that doesn’t immediately pay off, the calls that take longer than expected. Yet just like those Christmas moments around the dinner table, they add up, shape us, and make the wins deeper and more meaningful.

So here’s my gentle reminder today:

Before you jump back into full steam next week, take a moment to reflect on the time you’ve had, and what it’s taught you about what truly matters. Whether that was time with family, a long walk, a quiet cup of coffee, or simply resting, it was not wasted. It was recharging. It was essential.

Thank you again for being part of this community — for showing up, for caring, and for always trying to be a little better than you were yesterday.

Enjoy the remainder of your holiday and let that refreshed energy fuel what comes next.

Warmest wishes,
James

In today’s edition, we explore why humour is so important to opening doors and building relationships in sales. It has to be used at the right time, but when you do, then wow… Let’s get to it Hello Reader, I remember the day well. I had been on the phone trying to generate new leads for my software business for around 2 hours with limited success. I had made over 50 calls, and for the 20 or so people I had got to speak with (it was easier getting hold of people 15 years ago!!), they weren’t...

In today’s edition, I want to challenge a belief that gets repeated far too often in business. That great leaders delegate everything and stay well away from the front line.I don’t agree — and I’ll tell you why. Let’s dig in. Hello Reader, The other morning, I opened my diary and, like most days, it was packed. Call after call. Meetings stacked back-to-back. Decisions to make. Problems to fix. And it reminded me of a harsh truth about being a CEO. There is never enough time. Once you’ve built...

In today’s edition, we explore why hitting targets requires a clear plan and I outline how I am going to hit my revenue targets for 2026. No BS, no fluff, just clear details on how I am going to achieve my company’s revenue goal for this year. Let’s get to it. Hello Reader, Last week I told you that hope is not a strategy to achieve the 2026 goals you have. Just relying on people coming to you naturally is a highly unlikely route to bring in the leads you need to then turn into customers. So,...
