6 steps to lock in ANY proposal

Hello Reader,

We’ve all been there.

You spend hours crafting the perfect proposal.

You hit “send” with high hopes.

And then… silence.

No response. No questions. No deal.

The truth?

Most proposals fail because they’re written from the seller’s perspective… not the buyer’s.

So, I wanted to talk to you about fixing that, using a simple framework I call The SOLVER Method.

It’s a 6-step structure that’s helped me, my clients, and sales teams across the UK turn more proposals into yeses, especially in high-value or competitive tenders.

Here’s what SOLVER stands for:

Situations, Options, List, Visualise, Examples, Results.

Each step is designed to shift the focus away from you and onto the prospect’s world, so they feel understood, empowered, and confident saying “yes.”

Here’s a quick snapshot:

  • Situations – Clarify what they’re really facing
  • Options – Lay out every path they could take
  • List – Highlight the pros and cons of each
  • Visualise – Show what life could look like if they chose your option
  • Examples – Share relatable success stories
  • Results – Give them a clear picture of ROI

Want to see it in action?

I’ve broken down each step in a new blog post, with examples and tips you can use immediately… whether you’re writing a one-off proposal or a multi-page tender.

Let’s get to it. Hello Reader, Sales is hard, but is often very easy. Some simple principles work if you do them consistently enough. Let me share with you a simple story which explains more. I have a friend, Stuart, who is a sales rep at an agricultural company. A few years ago, he was given a new role and...

In today’s edition, we explore why you HAVE to get clever about measuring the different stages of the sales journey that your prospects go on and where in the pipeline you have the sales problem. Let’s get to it. Hello Reader, We lost a customer a few weeks ago, and it annoyed me. I have a business which provides calling services to companies who want to generate new leads (contact me if that’s something you need help with 😊), and we are good at what we do. The guys have been trained by me,...

In today’s edition, we explore why humour is so important to opening doors and building relationships in sales. It has to be used at the right time, but when you do, then wow… Let’s get to it Hello Reader, I remember the day well. I had been on the phone trying to generate new leads for my software business for around 2 hours with limited success. I had made over 50 calls, and for the 20 or so people I had got to speak with (it was easier getting hold of people 15 years ago!!), they weren’t...
